At least two people were killed while one casualty sustained serious injuries from a multiple car accident that caught fire along Interstate Highway 680 near San Ramon, California.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, the three-car collision was reported at around 1:20 in the morning, along the southbound lane of Interstate Highway 680 at the Crow Canyon Road off ramp.
Witnesses said that a man in his speeding vehicle struck a BMW convertible that has two passengers inside. Due to the extreme impact of the collision, both cars subsequently hit a large forklift, which eventually struck a pick-up truck in a nearby Caltrans construction zone.
At least one of the vehicles involved leaked its gas, which caught fire shortly after the incident. Additionally, two of the three passengers that were trapped inside the car that caught fire were pronounced dead at the scene while the other one was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Consequently, the incident shut down four lanes of the interstate overnight due to the incident.
Further reports claimed that a few hours later, another accident happened at the same area where the first incident occurred. Fortunately, the said accident only left one person with minor injury.
